Frida's Reign: A Designer's Dream

The Bentley, Condotel

It’s not often that, as a designer, you are given a blank slate and COMPLETE creative control over furnishing and decorating an entire home. So, when we found ourselves in that position earlier this year – we absolutely could not turn it down. To say that we have savored EVERY. SINGLE. MINUTE. of it would be an understatement.

Today, we would like to introduce you to Frida’s Reign. One of the newest AirBNBs in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood.

We were handed a clean canvas and no direction other than we needed to create an “experience”. She didn’t look like much when we started, but we got right to work turning her into something spectacular!

We don’t frequently get to work with bold color and pattern, but those two elements were top of mind from the very beginning. The first few items that we selected were this king-sized, zebra-print bed:

this thrifted teal sofa:

and finally this Cleo Stripe wall paper.

Each of these elements set the tone for their respective rooms and led us on an amazing journey to incorporate, balance and accent them.

The main living space became an adventure in texture with elements of fur, leather, wood, stone, ceramic, acrylic, glass & live plants being anchored by these amazing jacquard woven curtains from Anthropologie. The black and white mural was a perfect backdrop to add interest to the space without introducing aesthetic competition. And finally, no living space is complete without Samsung’s framed TV turning a big, ugly appliance into *art*.

The bar area is one of our favorite spaces in the whole home. Five, custom-built shelves hold all of the entertaining essentials as well as the carefully curated decor that make Frieda’s Reign the experience it is!

On to the bedrooms, where the patterns came to play.

The main bedroom features a custom-upholstered king bed, peppered with pillows and bedding (which we’re told is as comfy as it is gorgeous) that add to the party. The rug, artwork and other finishing touches make this room the ultimate workspace for today’s work-from-anywhere world.

The second bedroom completes this kaleidoscope of comfort with more cozy & elevated bedding to sleep up to three additional guests. This wallpaper from Chasing Paper will forever give us the energy that we need on days when we’re feeling uninspired. Repeating the pattern in two distinct areas of the room pulls the eye in different directions, elongating the room and giving the feeling of even more space.

Once the furnishings and main décor items were in place, we called in a local artist/botanist/creator – to add the greenery, custom light fixtures and a few specially designed finishing touches throughout.

We are absolutely head over heels about this project and getting to see the feedback from the guests has been amazing. We have already begun our next fully customized AirBnB project and are so dang excited to get to unveil it soon!

This unit is managed by The Hostal Service and is available for reservation here. It can also be reserved with an adjacent unit (which, combined, sleeps up to 12 guests)
