2023 Lovefest - You're Invited!

One of the things that I underestimated when becoming a parent, was how important EVERY holiday would be in our house. As soon as one holiday passes, the girls begin a countdown to whatever [often obscure] holiday is coming up next.

Valentine’s Day is a favorite in our house, and honestly, I don’t mind it. In the Midwest, Valentine’s Day hits right about the time that we are all dying of cabin fever. The outside world has been various shades of gray for the last 90 days and the excitement of Christmas is a distant memory. In short, we could use some color and some excitement up in here!

Pre-kids, Valentine’s Day was a fancy date night at whatever restaurant was still accepting walk-ins (since we obviously forgot to make reservations). But now - with kids - Valentines Day is an at-home, chicken nugget Lovefest with all six of us gathered around the dining room table, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

With the help of some of the most talented women in the Lake Country area, we were able to put together some beautiful Valentine’s tablescapes to breakup the monotony of winter and to celebrate a day of love and appreciation.

Generally, I feel that black never gets enough play in the whole Valentine’s situation. So for me, it was an obvious place to start. The black dinner plates and black linen created a nice anchor for the pink and red discoteque that we were about to launch in the center of the table.

We completed each place setting with a silver charger, red napkin, my favorite silver flatware, a clear water glass and these red champagne flutes that are BEYOND.

For placecards we bought unfinished wood hearts and spray painted them white and then dug out our lasercut names (that I had leftover from a prior event) and painted them red to match.

The centerpiece itself is a white chiffon linen with a black velvet runner over the top. We wanted to keep this one simple, so we just stuck with two elements - candles and disco balls.

The key to getting away with only two elements in the centerpiece is to use various shapes and heights to create plenty of depth and visual interest. Scattering the three different candle heights and four different disco ball sizes really filled in the space and brought the table to life. Well, that and the introduction of this INSANE cake from Lolo Loves Cakes!

At night, the candleflames dancing off the mirrors on the disco balls take the whole set up to the next level!

With the table set, the last piece was to bring in the goodies! Desserts from Mili Wonka Treats & Whisked Away Bakery and a gorgeous charcuterie board from Beautiful Boards by Kali were added to complete the whole dining experience.

But wait. There’s more…
